This site was started by someone who grew up on the funk — Parliament and Funkadelic, the Isley Brothers, Ohio Players, Teena Marie, Prince and the Minneapolis sound — and never stopped believing that this music sounds best the way it was made to be heard: on vinyl, through a real system, in a room you don't want to leave.
Every guide here is written against one standard: does it make the funk hit harder? We recommend gear we'd buy ourselves and records we'd play for you if you came over. When we haven't personally heard something, we say so.
